What is 10GBASE-T and NGBASE-T

The 802.3bz standard specifies 2.5GBASE-T and 5GBASE-T, which are lower speeds intended for use over shorter distances on existing copper cabling infrastructure such as category 5e.

NGBASE-T is a different standard for Ethernet over twisted pair cable that was developed by the NBASE-T Alliance. It allows for speeds of up to 2.5 or 5 Gbps over Category CABLE (CAT6) or Category 6a (CAT6a) cable. IEEE 802.3an and NBASE-T are compatible with each other. 10GBASE-T is also sometimes referred to as NGBASE-T, which stands for Next Generation BASE-T.
